Introduction to shape optimization

In this talk the introduction to shape optimization techniques for elliptic boundary value problems is presented. The weak and classical solutions of the elliptic equations are considered. A scalar problem as well as the isotropic elasticity equations are analysed from the point of view of shape optimization. It means that the material and shape derivatives of solutions are given by solutions to auxiliary boundary value problems of the same type. The shape gradients of energy functionals are obtained and the topological derivatives on the boundaries are characterized by singular limits of shape gradients. The first order optimality conditions are derived for the representative examples of shape optimization problems.
