Argonne Leadership Computing Facility: Current and Future Path
Tipo de evento: Seminário LNCC
Located at Argonne National Laboratory 15 miles south from Chicago, Illinois, Argonne Leadership Computing Facility is one of the two US Department of Energy's Leadership Facilities, and one of the largest IBM Blue Gene/P installations in the world. Open to researchers from academia, US government labs, and industry, both National and International, the Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment (INCITE) program is the major means by which the scientific community gains access to ALCF's supercomputer. The program aims to accelerate scientific discoveries and technological innovations by awarding, on a competitive basis, time on supercomputers to researchers with large-scale, computationally intensive projects that address "grand challenges" in science and engineering. In this talk, I will give a general introduction to the ALCF infrastructure, the process of INCITE allocation, as well as the services that ALCF provides to our users. After that I will quickly overview the ALCF's 556 TF Blue Gene/P installation, following a more technical discussion on the hardware architectural trends. Looking forward, ALCF has already announced procurement of the next generation IBM's Blue Gene/Q supercomputer very soon. I will give a technical overview and share my early experience from running on Early Access hardware. I will also present results of ALCF Application performance test suit - a collection of real applications that ALCF strategically supports for their future platforms. Finally, I am planning to start programming model discussion, bringing up portability and interoperability issue across multiple HPC platforms.
